At the end of 2012, as we were planning for next year’s product roadmap, I came across this Radio Shack ad from 1990 and the caption of this online article stated: Our smartphones today can do everything on this page all in the palms of our hands. iOS and Android have truly revolutionized consumer electronics hardware and mobile broadband services.  Most importantly, it has fundamentally changed our lifestyles: through information, communication, and convenience.

The idea of sengLED+ was born that day.  As a leader in LED lighting design, engineering, and manufacturing, we were in a perfect position to lead the industry into an era of integrated LED with consumer electronics.  Every light socket can become a smart hub for the home, for entertainment, security, productivity, convenience, everything.  So our slogan became: Light the Possibilities.

I am extremely proud to announce today that our first LED+ product is the Pulse by Sengled.  It is a LED bulb + JBL speaker.  To be more specific, the Pulse come in a pack of two, 1 Master and 1 Satellite BR30 LED bulb, which will fit into any 5/6” downlight typically found in all kitchens, bedrooms, family rooms, decks, etc.  Once the consumers pair their smartphone Bluetooth with the Master bulb, the Master bulb will relay the audio signal to the Satellite bulb to provide a true multi-channel stereo experience.  In the near future, we will provide a software update to enable one Master bulb to be connected with up to 7 Satellite bulbs (for a total of 8 bulbs).  The Pulse can be controlled by our iOS/Android app, which will allow consumers to control light and sound levels and launch their favorite media players, such as Pandora, Spotify, TuneIn Radio, etc.  They can configure it to play in a single room or have the Pulse distributed in multiple rooms for music throughout the house.  The Pulse is especially usefully for children on their tablets.  They no longer need to stick their faces close just to hear the audio.  Now all their friends can join the fun.

We are in Frankfurt, Germany this week at the Light+Building show.  The Pulse will be available for sale and ship on April 17.
